Foreword
On the occasion of the World Exhibition held in 2000,the
first World Congress of High-Tech Medicine took place in Hanover. The
aim of this congress was to promote the exchange of ideas among
international experts in the field of high-tech medicine while also
presenting the latest developments in this area.
The major areas covered by this congress were surgery,
gastroenterology, anaesthesia and intensive care medicine, radiology, and
ultrasound, as well as computer and information technologies as applied to
medicine. The topics were selected with particular emphasis on the
interdisciplinary aspects.
The aim of this volume is to help its readers to
consolidate and deepen the information they picked at the congress, while
at the same time making it available to those who were unable to attend in
person. Although this volume does not contain all the presentations made,
it does provide a representative overview of the topics dealt with during
the congress. It is to be hoped that, in this way, innovative advances in
the above-mentioned specialist areas will be made accessible to a wide
public.
