FOREWORD

This book consists of a collection of 27 papers written by selected authors, who had presented their research at the 6th. International Conference on Progress in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases (AD/PD 2003) that took place on May 8-12, 2003, in Seville Spain.

It serves as a companion piece to the Official Proceedings (OP) of the conference, which will be published later this year by the Martin Dunitz and Parthenon Publishing company.

Since there was a limit to the number of chapters that could be included in the OP, we restricted the contributions to chapters based on oral, invited presentations at the meeting. Monduzzi Editore has provided an avenue for the publication of selected additional chapters in the context of this book, thus expanding the scope of available information from the AD/PD 2003 proceedings.

In the interest of saving time and allowing rapid publication, we agreed with Monduzzi Editore’s request that, as editors, we would only correct major mistakes or errors in scientific logic and fact. We would not concern ourselves with differences in font type, style, or referencing in these chapters.

A more thorough and extensive editorial process will be employed with the OP manuscript.

We hope that this book will provide the reader with a modest overview of the scope and breadth of topics that were covered in the AD/PD 2003 conference. We also thank the authors for preparing their chapters at relatively short notice.
